The First Person to Create Jian Cups with Partridge Spot Patterns

Born in Xiamen in 1945, Chen Dapeng is a Chinese National Craft Artist and a member of the Ancient Chinese Ceramics Research Society. He is a Jian cup master who has received the National Lifetime Achievement Award. With 40 years of dedicated research into Jian cups, Chen successfully replicated the hairline and oil-drop glazes, bringing back to life famous porcelains that had been lost for centuries. His skills are exceptional, and his works are highly expressive. He is particularly skilled in firing Partridge Spot glazes, capturing both the spirit and form vividly, earning him the title of “The First Person in Partridge Spot Glaze” within the industry.

In 1979, Chen was tasked with restoring the craftsmanship of Jian cups from the Jian kiln, one of the Eight Famous Kilns of the Song Dynasty, which had been lost for 800 years.

In 1980, Chen successfully fired Jian cups with rabbit-hair glaze.
